How to use item codes

Introduction

As with many data in OutSmart, items need to be provided with an item code. All data will be linked to this code like on which workorder or invoices this material is used or example. This article is a short overview of how to use item codes as well as some details to be aware of.

Detailed Explanation

Setting a item code is asked when making a new material. OutSmart does not limit what can be used as a item code so numbers, letters or a combination of both can be used. We advice not to use special signs like apostrophes and exclamation marks since this can cause problems in our system. OutSmart does not lock the item code after an item is created so an item code can be changed when editing a item.

IMPORTANT! OutSmart highly discourages changing item codes. Linked information to the previous code is not mapped to the new item code which can cause loss of information.
