Visma acquires OutSmart and becomes Benelux market leader in field service management software

Visma takes over OutSmart

Visma, the European leader in cloud software, acquires OutSmart. OutSmart is a SaaS scale-up that develops field service management software for small and medium-sized businesses. OutSmart was founded in the Netherlands and also operates in Belgium, Germany, and Portugal. Joining Visma will allow OutSmart to accelerate its growth ambitions.

OutSmart was founded in 2011 under the name WerkbonApp. Out-of-office staff can use the digital work order to register their activities, after which the back office processes them into invoices with a mouse click. The tool became an instant success.

In 2019, WerkbonApp changed its name to OutSmart because the software had now grown into a full-fledged and user-friendly field service management system. It includes functions for digital scheduling, materials management, quotations, CRM, time recording, invoicing, project planning, contract and object management, and specific functions for refrigeration installers.

The cloud application works on laptops, smartphones, and tablets and has over 80 links to accounting and ERP systems. More than 4,000 companies in installation engineering, construction, and other service providers use OutSmart for their daily operations.

Why is OutSmart becoming part of the Visma family?

The ambition is to grow to 120,000 users by 2025. This ambition is undoubtedly achievable, expects Steven Rigter, co-founder and CEO of OutSmart. About 35% of companies with a field service work with a digital system. “Our main competitors are Excel and WhatsApp. We are therefore entering a blue ocean. Especially in the Benelux, Germany, and France, we see growth opportunities.”

Since its inception, OutSmart has focused on linking with financial and ERP systems,” explains Bas Langenhuizen, co-founder and CCO at OutSmart. “We believe it is essential that field and inside sales can work together digitally seamlessly. That is possible with OutSmart linked to our customers’ other business systems.”

The founders find that growing as a scale-up requires additional skills beyond software development, sales, and support. To professionalise other aspects of the business as well, OutSmart is now affiliated with Visma. Steven Rigter: “We immediately experience the family feeling at Visma and love the fact that we get support on, for example, technology, marketing, and sales. This means we don’t have to reinvent the wheel ourselves. This allows us to take OutSmart to the next phase of growth.”

John Reynders, Area Director Benelux at Visma, is delighted with the newest member of the Visma family. “OutSmart fits perfectly with our mission to simplify and automate work processes within companies. Their API-first approach is great. OutSmart interfaces with any business system. This allows installers, construction companies, and other service providers to serve their customers better, faster, and more profitably. In doing so, OutSmart makes an important contribution to a better and more effective society.”

OutSmart will continue to operate under its own name and with the current team of 45 employees as an independent unit within the Visma Group. Agreements with clients remain unchanged.
